My wife texted me yesterday as I prepared to open the new restaurant Wildflour Leavenworth and reminded me that it was exactly one year to the day that we closed Arista. It was such a heartbreaking day last year. I will always remain grateful to the Puyallup community for their support and for helping me make a start on this amazing culinary adventure. Chef Ben is opening a new restaurant at Kahler Glen Golf & Ski Resort in Leavenworth WA. It’s a bit of a drive for all of you folks in Puyallup, but if you’re visiting the beautiful mountains and need that pasta fix stop in and say hello to a familiar face. Opening April 2018.
As many of you know Arista has been struggling financially due to mistakes that I made in past years. I was approached at the time we first decided to close by a private investor. We spoke several times over December, January and February but although we struggled through those months the investment never materialized. Anne and I sat down this weekend and gave it another long look and knew we were unable to continue. I feel very badly about this but I'm also relieved and excited about the next chapter. It looks like there will be an opportunity to continue as an executive chef in Puyallup. The details are still being worked out. Stepping away from ownership and back into a chef position feels awesome and I know working with the folks involved in the next place will give us more financial stability in the long term. I am very humbled and grateful to stay in this community that has showed me so much grace. Please keep our family in your prayers as we work through the financial difficulties of the moment. Thank you to all of you who supported us.
